Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8)

Hands holding a house

The Management Office for current Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) tenants is located at 831 S. Nevada Ave.

The Housing Choice Vouchers program is a rent subsidy program that assists eligible low-income persons and their families in obtaining affordable, decent, and safe housing by paying a portion of their rent. Eligible applicants locate a unit in the private rental market. Rent must be within the current allowed Payment Standards. The tenant pays between 30% and 40% of their gross income for rent. Participants are required to have an annual inspection.

Determining Family Unit (voucher) Size: The Housing Authority will assign one bedroom for each two persons within the household, except in the following circumstances:

  • Children of the opposite gender will be allocated separate bedrooms if either child has reached 6 years of age by, or prior to, the effective date of the annual reexamination or new admission.
  • Persons opposite gender of the head of household will be allocated separate bedrooms if the person has reached 6 years of age by, or prior to, the effective date of the annual reexamination or new admission.
  • A live-in aide will be allocated a separate bedroom (if the live-in aide has children, the child will not be allocated separate bedrooms).

Beginning January 3rd, 2017, the Colorado Springs Housing Authority Section 8 Housing Specialists and Intake staff will no longer see walk-ins. All voucher holders and intake clients must have a scheduled appointment with their Specialist.

A copy of the Colorado Springs Housing Authority Administrative Plan is available upon request.
